Find Your PhD-Flow: Time Competence Applied

Take advantage of this 2-day workshop organized for G3S members!

Description
Doing a PhD is full of challenges. Whether an important paper is due, conference attendances have to be organized, or work, family and free time need to be "reconciled", all of this requires excellent organization.

At the same time, we all know the feeling of sitting in front of the laptop all day not accomplishing anything meaningful. Zoom meetings break up our work flow, a maze of open tabs in front of us and the email inbox just won't get empty. Precious time for our PhD seems to be lost.

Time competence minimizes this loss and helps to successfully master the big challenges of our doctorate. The workshop will focus on the most important elements of this "art" – regardless of whether one's own time competence needs only to be optimized or persistent spirals of unproductivity and dissatisfaction are to be broken.

Goals
The main goal is to enable PhD students to develop their own individual, healthy and productive workflow. In the first part of the workshop, participants will learn a time competence model that they can customize and put into practice in the days between the workshops. The idea is that all knowledge may be specifically applied to individual situations and needs. The mutual exchange of personal experiences and best-practice tips also serve this purpose.

Workshop contents:

  • Self-check and elements of time competence
  • Time robbers and procrastination
  • Digital stress, nudging and attention as a resource
  • Workflow and work-life balance
  • Planning and prioritization techniques (method “VORALPEN”)
  • "Zero Inbox" and "Redux Communication Channels"
  • Applied transfer of knowledge: "My flow concept"
