The Sound of Sustainability: Dr. Adam Hearn and students organize a sustainable Music Fair

Flyer Sustainable Music Fair

As part of the University of Basel's Sustainability Week (24–29 March 2025), we are excited to share an event at the intersection of music and sustainability.

Music may have a critical role in the transition to a culture of sustainability because it raises awareness and inspires action. Yet paradoxically, the production and consumption of music may also carry significant social and environmental impact.

In the Colloquium ‘The Sound of Sustainability: From Theory to Festival - Orchestrating a Greener Music Industry’ by Dr. Adam Hearn of the Sustainability Research Department, students will engage with topics such as sustainable touring, eco-friendly instrument and music/video production, music consumption, soundscapes and biodiversity, and the potential role of music in sustainability.

As a culmination of the course, the students will organize a public Sustainable Music Fair. The exact date will be announced on the Sustainability Research website — stay tuned!
