Flyer Rosa Lavelle-Hill

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Digital Humanities Lab are pleased to invite you to the inaugural lecture of Prof. Dr. Rosa Lavelle-Hill.

Prof. Lavelle-Hill's research takes up her professorship in Digital Humanities, Social Sciences, and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Basel. Her research sits at the intersection of social science theory, data science, and machine learning. Her work focuses on developing ethical AI methodologies and applying predictive modelling to better understand human behaviour and societal challenges. Her research interests span from environmental psychology, educational attainment, sustainable development, human rights, and the prevention of modern slavery and human trafficking. Thereby, she is particularly interested in how data-driven methods can help to inform or challenge existing theories in the social sciences.

Prior to joining Basel, she held positions as Assistant Professor at the University of Copenhagen and the Copenhagen Center for Social Data Science (SODAS), and as Postdoctoral Researcher at the Hector Institute for Empirical Educational Research at the University of Tübingen and at the Alan Turing Institute in London. She received her doctorate in Big Data Psychology from the University of Nottingham in 2020. In spring 2024, she was a Junior Fellow of Forum Basiliense at the University of Basel.

We warmly invite colleagues, students, and all interested members of the public to attend her lecture.

24 March 2025, 6.15 pm | Aula, Naturhistorisches Museum Basel, Augustinergasse 2
