Researching Archives: Experiences & Perspectives

One-day Doctoral workshop

Workshop:
"Researching Archives: Experiences & Perspectives" is a one-day Workshop at the University of Basel with Jasmine Benhaida and Fares Damien (Program in Near and Middle Eastern studies).

The workshop will consist of three sessions from our four guest-contributors in which they introduce their experiences, perspectives and approaches to, with and within colonial, consular, family archives among others. The final session will be an open discussion situating the presenters’ and the students’ own experiences in archives within the current debates on decolonizing archives, access, circulation and ownership.

Application:
Currently enrolled students who wish to attend the workshop should write an email to Jasmine Benhaida (jasminesarah.benhaida@unibas.ch) and Fares Damien (fares.damien@unibas.ch) with a short text summarizing their academic background and explaining how this workshop fits in to their research interests. Up to 15 applicants will be selected for participation in the workshop, based on relevance of their research project.

Priority will be given to currently enrolled Ph.D. students of the Graduate School of Social Sciences (G3S) at the University of Basel and advanced master’s students at the Department of Social Sciences and Program in Near and Middle Eastern Studies.

The workshop will be conducted in English.

Requirements for Successful Participation:
Participants are entitled to 1 ECTS point for successful participation. One mandatory reading is requested by the participants and will be sent accordingly. Successful participation at the workshop is subject to the mandatory completion of the required reading in advance and active participation in the workshop discussions.

The deadline for applications is 28 October 2022. Applicants will receive an answer regarding their participation by 5 November 2022, at the latest. The workshop is free of charge.
