Filmscreening by the Research Network Sustainable Future

Flyer the Cost of Growth

The Cost of Growth: This documentary reveals the human and ecological costs hidden behind Europe’s prosperity.

How really pays the price for Europe's economic growth? Join the Sustainable Future Research Network for a screening of ‘The Cost of Growth’, a documentary that takes viewers on a journey through Serbia, Italy, and the indigenous Sápmi region to reveal the human and ecological costs hidden behind Europe’s prosperity. Following climate activists Anuna De Wever and Lena Hartog, the film documents communities on the frontlines of extractivism — and the grassroots movements rising to resist it.

The film asks urgent questions: How is growth defended? Who bears its costs? And what does it mean to move beyond it? It connects local struggles to broader debates about war, democracy, and justice, making the case that extractive violence is not an accident of the global economy — it is a structural feature of it. All revenue from screenings is channelled directly back to campaigns for democratizing the economy and to the communities and movements featured in the film.

After the screening, an apéro will give everyone the chance to connect, share impressions, and meet fellow students and researchers. Admission is free.
