Marie Levant in the Colloquium of the Fourm Basiliense

Flyer Marie Levant

Today, the colloquium of the Forum Basiliense is hosting Marie Levant (Marie Curie Fellow, École française de Rome & Institut français du Proche-Orient, Beirut).

Marie Levant holds a lecture on: “A Third Actor in the Humanitarian Field: The Catholic Church and Palestinian Refugees (1948–1967)”.

Marie Levant’s work sits at the intersection of Vatican diplomacy, interconfessional relations, and the religious dimensions of modern humanitarianism. Drawing on archival research and fieldwork in Lebanon, Rome, and the US, she examines transnational Catholic networks of aid to populations in the Middle East — from missionary and humanitarian relief for Armenians and Eastern Christians in the 1920s to large-scale assistance for Palestinians from 1948 to 1967.

Her research traces how emergency relief, education, long-term assistance, advocacy, and informal diplomacy intersected in this period.
