Established in 2016\, Urban Studies at the University of Basel offers a new platform for understanding these p lanetary transformations. \\r\\nWe are pleased to present our first exhib ition of ongoing work by students in our Master in Critical Urbanisms pro gram as well as more advanced researchers. Our work starts from the premi se that the world’s urban and environmental challenges call for new way s of doing as well as new ways of thinking. Imagining alternative urban f utures means rethinking the present—its historical making\, its politic al unfolding\, and the ways in which it is made sensible. Our work expand s the study of the urban by examining urban struggles and futures in rela tion to the legacies of empire and to alternative practices of world-maki ng and knowledge production.  \\r\\nThe Master in Critical Urbanisms is an English-taught\, four-semester program that qualifies students in inte rdisciplinary urban research combining methods from the humanities and so cial sciences with creative practice and visual representation. Drawing f rom the disciplines of architecture\, geography\, history\, sociology\, p olitical science\, and anthropology\, the curriculum provides students wi th practical and theoretical competencies to address the complex challeng es of urbanization in the twenty-first century.
