SUMMARY:Move the Nuclear Weapons Money
DESCRIPTION:Nuclear weapons and climate change create existential threats t
 o  humanity and the environment. Federal governments have committed to  el
 iminating both threats – nuclear weapons through the disarmament  obliga
 tion in the Non-Proliferation Treaty and climate change through  the Paris
  Agreement. However\, implementation of these obligations is  being preven
 ted by institutional inertia and vested financial interests  in the status
  quo\, especially from the fossil fuel and nuclear weapons  industries. Co
 rporations involved in the nuclear weapons industry\, for  example\, activ
 ely lobby their parliaments and governments to allocate  even more funds t
 o nuclear weapons. And they support think tanks and  other public relation
 s initiatives to promote the ‘need’ for nuclear  weapons to be maintai
 ned\, modernized and deployed. \\r\\nThis conference will bring together l
 egislators (mayors\, city councilors  and parliamentarians)\, financial ma
 nagers\, and experts in disarmament  and climate change to examine success
 ful divestment policies and support  their expansion and replication. The 
 conference will also address  impact investment and build cooperation to a
