SUMMARY:Applied Qualitative Data Analysis
DESCRIPTION:Concept: \\r\\nA large body of literature explores and describ
es different research methods and qualitative data analyses tools. But th
e challenge often remains as to how to apply a chosen method to one’s o
wn data. How do we get from choosing the suitable analysis tool to actual
 ly organize\, disassemble\, re-assemble\, code\, and interpret our data?
This colloquium will provide the space to present excerpts of data (field
notes\, recorded or transcribed interviews\, film material\, archive mat
erial etc.) and generate in-depth discussions with fellow PhD candidates
about your own research data. The idea is to create a space\, where we ca
n discuss our data analyses and jointly develop them further. In each se
ssion\, 1-2 people will bring data they wish to discuss and analyze toget
her. You may present problems and dead-ends to find possible solutions in
the group. Either you come with a clear idea about what kind of method y
ou wish to apply for the data presented or we can engage in open-ended di
scussions about possible kind(s) of method(s) you could use. You can brin
g analyzed excerpts of your data to discuss the codes with the group\, or
we can look at an excerpt of your data that you have not yet analyzed. I
t should be a space to be used corresponding to your needs. \\r\\nData c
an be discussed in either German or English. The general language will be
English but we may organize an all-German session if there is a group of
people with data in German only.\\r\\nThe course will take place once a w
eek on Tuesday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m.\\r\\nPlease write an email to Ju
lia Büchele (j.buechele@unibas.ch) before the first session if you would
 like to participate.
